Respiratory therapy is specialized care for patients who have trouble breathing. It can help patients improve their breathing function, strengthen their lungs and recover from serious injuries or illnesses, including respiratory and cardiac arrest. Care may include mechanical ventilators, oxygen and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment. Available diagnostic tests include:
The respiratory therapy department moved in 2015 to a remodeled space on the second floor of the hospital to enable respiratory therapists to provide individualized care and close monitoring to patients in the adjacent transitional care unit.
Scheduling an appointment
Referrals to our registered respiratory therapists, Bob Fairbanks, RRT, RPSGT, and Dan Werth, RRT, are usually made by a health care provider when a patient is experiencing breathing problems or requires specialized heart tests. Patients with a referral for respiratory care can schedule appointments by calling 320-864-7080.
Referrals for vent-dependent patients
We also provide ventilator care and liberation services to patients who are admitted to our hospital transitional care unit (TCU). Facilities wishing to refer a ventilator-dependent patient for a weaning trial in our TCU should call our transitional care admissions line at 320-864-7719.
