As an orthopedic surgeon, I treat problems affecting bones, muscles, ligaments and joints, whether caused by trauma, overuse or chronic conditions such as arthritis. I specialize in total hip and knee replacement surgery, as well as hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder surgeries.
Before entering private practice, I served as a physician in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years. I went in a family practice doctor but came out an orthopedic surgeon. I was inspired to switch specialties through my experience being the team physician for hockey, basketball and football at the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Education & credentials
Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of treating the patient as a whole. I ask what my patients do for work and leisure so I can help them adapt their lifestyles to their injuries. Knowing that big picture helps me provide the best care for individual patients and helps them achieve a successful outcome.
Growing up in Minnesota, I learned to downhill ski and fish at a young age, and still enjoy both activities today. I always look forward to ice fishing with my wife,Paula. I am a big fan of duck hunting and have been active in Ducks Unlimited for many years. I also hunt deer and pheasants. Paula and I have two adult daughters; one works in marketing and the other is training to be a podiatrist.
